Lead Payroll Operations for a Growing Airline
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager with a strong payroll background and previous exposure to the aviation industry to join a leading airline in Papua New Guinea. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, operational environment and is passionate about accuracy, compliance, and team leadership. The role is based in Port Moresby and reports directly to senior finance leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Manage payroll for both national and expatriate employees.
- Oversee fortnightly payroll processing, deductions, taxes, benefits, allowances, and salary sacrifice arrangements.
- Ensure all payroll transactions comply with company policies and statutory requirements.
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and tax obligations.
- Maintain payroll systems, employee records, leave balances, and remuneration data.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll management reports.
- Work closely with Finance, Human Resources, and Operations to ensure payroll data integrity.
- Identify payroll process improvements and training requirements within the payroll function.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive employee and payroll information.
Requirements
Essential
- Extensive experience managing high-volume payroll operations.
- Previous Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Supervisor experience.
- Experience leading and developing payroll teams.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, deductions, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organisational abilities.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with senior management and multiple stakeholders.
Highly Desirable
- Previous experience within the aviation, airline, airport, or aviation services sector.
- Experience processing payroll for shift-based, rostered, or operational workforces.
- Knowledge of payroll systems such as Attache Payroll or similar enterprise payroll platforms.
- Exposure to expatriate payroll administration and benefits management.
Qualifications
- Year 12 Certificate (minimum).
- Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, Payroll, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Additional payroll, accounting, or finance qualifications will be advantageous.
